Welcome
At Sunrise Pine, our mission is to provide education that enables students to prosper both inside and outside of school. Our goal is to create a space where you truly thrive. We want to help you build your academic skills and your personal growth. Education is a partnership. By working together, we can help you cultivate self reliance, critical thinking, and a genuine love for learning. Our approach uses clear expectations and deep support to ensure you have an empowering educational journey.
Attendance and Participation
When you join class on time and stay engaged, learning gets much easier. If you know you will be out for a doctor appointment or a family event, please have your parents let your teacher know a day in advance. If something unexpected happens, just send a quick message as soon as you can. We will help you make a plan to catch up.
If you miss a class, check your daily tasks in the platform, follow feedback your teacher may have provided and reach out to reschedule. If you need extended time away, tell us right away. We can set a temporary pacing plan that keeps you moving without piling on stress.
Please review our Attendance and Participation Policy for a complete overview.
Classes
We build schedules that actually work for you. Your teacher will help you choose a meeting rhythm that keeps you progressing. Sometimes that is once a week. Sometimes it is more often. If you need to reschedule, please ask in advance. We will always try to find a new time for you.
A typical live session feels focused but relaxed. We will review what you tried since we last met. We will tackle new ideas together and make a plan for your next steps. Expect plenty of practice and questions. We adjust the pacing so you are challenged but never overwhelmed. After class, your teacher writes a short note about what you covered. There is never any mystery about the plan.
Before you join a class, set yourself up for success. Use your full real name. Test your camera and microphone. Pick a calm and appropriate background. Bring what you need and close extra browser tabs.
Please review our Classes and Studying Guide for more details.
Student Behavior Expectations
Our digital classrooms work best when everyone feels safe to focus. That means we speak to each other respectfully. We debate ideas rather than attacking people. We keep all humor appropriate for school. When a class requires cameras to be on, please keep yours on. Backgrounds must be neutral and appropriate. We do not allow discriminatory, adult, violent, or political imagery.
Harassment or bullying is never tolerated. This includes chat messages and social media posts connected to school. If something crosses a line, tell a teacher or email info@sunrisepine.com right away. We take action quickly and keep your family informed.
When behavior gets in the way of learning, we respond with support. First, we remind you of the rules. If it continues, we contact your home to help you reset. If a serious problem happens, our Principal will join us to make a formal plan.
Please consult the Student Behavior Expectations Policy for our complete conduct standards.
Academic Integrity
Integrity is simple. Do your own authentic work and be honest about the help you used. If you are unsure whether a tool is allowed, just ask before you submit. Keep your drafts and notes. They help show your thinking process.
Here are things that break our trust:
- Copying the writing of someone else
- Sharing answers
- Having another person do the work for you
- Making up data
- Using unapproved aids on tests like opening extra tabs
- Relying on translation tools when they are not allowed
If we have a concern, your teacher will let you know. You will get a chance to explain your process. Consequences match what happened. A first violation often means a zero on the task with a chance to redo it properly for full credit. A second violation usually means a zero with no redo allowed. Serious issues will involve a meeting with the Principal.
Pro tip: When you quote someone, use quotation marks. When you paraphrase, you still need to cite the source.
Please consult our Academic Integrity Policy for a comprehensive guide.
Addressing AI
Many schools are terrified of Artificial Intelligence. A huge number of students use it to cheat without actually learning the subject matter. This ultimately hurts their development and critical thinking.
However, this challenge also presents a unique opportunity for you. We anticipate that many people will increasingly turn to AI for easy answers. This creates a new path for those who choose a different approach. This is your opportunity to stand out! It is an opportunity to do the real work. You will learn how to learn. You will develop your critical thinking and take genuine pride in what you create.
Using AI can be great for brainstorming research topics. Using it to finish your work will lead to stagnation. If you engage with your work with honesty and hard work, you will grow as a person. You will gain valuable skills and get ahead much easier in a world that is constantly trying to find shortcuts.
Also, since verbal discussion assessments are mandatory here, our teachers will know if you used AI to do the work for you anyway!
Grading, GPA, and Credit Requirements
You earn credit as you complete courses. A full year course counts as one credit. A single semester course counts as half a credit. Most students take four core subjects and two electives each year. To graduate from high school, you will need at least 24 credits.
Final course grades use a familiar scale. A is 90 to 100. B is 80 to 89. C is 70 to 79. D is 60 to 69. F is anything below 60. Grades of A through D earn credit. An F does not earn credit and must be retaken.
Your unweighted GPA uses a standard four point scale. A is 4. B is 3. C is 2. D is 1. F is 0. For the weighted GPA, Honors courses add half a point and AP courses add one full point.
We believe in showing what you know. Teachers will offer targeted retakes so you can demonstrate true mastery.
Please consult the Grading, GPA, and Credit Requirements Policy for detailed requirements.
Health and Safety Online
Learning online brings responsibilities. Protect your account by keeping your login private. Guard your personal information. If you run into cyberbullying or suspicious links, tell a trusted adult right away so we can respond.
Live classes use safety features like waiting rooms. Your teacher might limit screen sharing or chat to keep the focus on learning.
If a student may be at risk of harm to themselves or others, our staff will act immediately. We follow mandatory reporting protocols and will contact emergency services first if it is urgent.
Please review our Health and Safety Policies for a complete outline of our procedures.
Parent and Guardian Responsibilities
You do not have to do school alone. Families help most by setting up a calm workspace and encouraging routines. Coaching is great. Parents can read instructions aloud or brainstorm ideas with you. What is not allowed is a parent completing, translating, or editing your work. That keeps your grades accurate and your skills growing.
Families can request observer access to see your grades and deadlines. When your parents have a question, they should start by contacting your teacher. If they need more help, they can reach out to info@sunrisepine.com as well.
During live classes, parents should not appear on camera unless invited. Parents may never record or share class sessions.
Please review the Parent/Guardian Responsibilities Guide for a detailed overview.
